GWM has expanded its local SUV portfolio with the introduction of the HAVAL H7 Black Edition, a darker, more assertive take on the already well-equipped HAVAL H7.
The H7 arrived in South Africa in January 2025 and quickly carved out a space in the competitive mid-size SUV segment. Its blend of performance, technology and value has since earned it a finalist spot in the South African Car of the Year Awards for 2025, underscoring the model's growing reputation among local buyers.
Darker, more distinctive design
With the Black Edition range, the focus shifts to styling. The edition introduces a suite of exclusive exterior details designed to give the SUV a more aggressive visual presence. A blacked-out grille, redesigned alloy wheels, and black roof rails headline the changes, while black mirror covers, dark window trim, and black exterior badging further reinforce the stealth-inspired theme. The result is a more purposeful look that complements the H7's upright proportions and rugged SUV stance.
Turbo and hybrid power
Under the skin, the Black Edition retains the same powertrain options available across the broader H7 range.
Buyers can choose between a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 170 kW and 380 Nm in either 4x2 or 4x4 configuration, or a 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid electric system. The hybrid combines petrol and electric power for a total system output of 179 kW and a substantial 530 Nm of torque.
That torque advantage gives the hybrid variant strong low-rpm pulling power, particularly useful when carrying passengers, towing, or tackling more demanding terrain.
Built for the road and beyond
For drivers venturing off the beaten track, the H7's drivetrain is supported by an intelligent all-wheel drive system that continuously monitors traction and distributes torque where it is needed most.
Multiple selectable driving modes include Sport, Eco, Snow, Mud, Sand, Grass and uneven terrain, tailor throttle response, traction control, and torque distribution to suit varying conditions. The system is designed to enhance both on-road stability and off-road capability.
Comprehensive safety technology
Safety remains a key focus for the Haval H7. The SUV is equipped with a wide range of active safety and driver assistance systems aimed at supporting the driver and reducing the risk of accidents.
Standard features include Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Brake Assist, Traction Control and Roll Movement Intervention, alongside Lane Departure Warning. Advanced systems such as Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking use radar and camera technology to monitor the road ahead and intervene if necessary.

Premium interior experience
Inside, the H7 combines comfort with a high level of digital connectivity. The cabin features heated and ventilated front leather seats, a heated multifunction steering wheel and a panoramic sunroof, while the rear seats fold flat to expand cargo space. A cooling compartment within the armrest adds a practical touch for long journeys.
Technology takes center stage with a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and head-up display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50W wireless charging pad and an eight-speaker DTS audio system round out the connected experience.
